OST Obsession

I believe that when a movie is able to match its soundtrack to its scenes so perfectly that it brings the audience to a state of reverence, that movie is a success. The first time this happened for me was when I saw Bring It On.

How could this be, you ask? How could a movie filled with cheerleaders be the first movie to touch my soul and drive me to an unexplainable LOVE of movie soundtracks and Original Sound Tracks (OST)?

Well, the song played during the “Swing Set” scene and the “Unable to Sleep” scene.

It touched my soul.

I was absolutely obsessed. I wanted that song.  I couldn’t explain why I had to have it, but I did. I needed to hear it on repeat. I needed to walk with it, move with it, fall asleep with it.

When I realized that I couldn’t buy it ANYWHERE, and that it wasn’t on Youtube, I was heartbroken. I didn’t know what it was called or who had done it. All of my research for the artist of the background music only gave me the main soundtrack that listed various artists of well-known songs…

Eventually, with enough online hunting, I found the artist: Christophe Beck. And finally I found the name of the song!

Swing Set Sunset

Back then (year 2000… I was 9… holy crap!), his website was an extremely basic HTML site, but he had posted the song to his page. I still couldn’t buy it, but now, I could listen to it. My obsession may not have lasted for Swing Set Sunset, but it didn’t go away.

Through that song, I had found a passion for music. From that point forward, I began actively listening to what movies had in the background. And not just movies: video games, TV shows, even commercials – they were all influencing my emotions, and I loved them all.
